Breeding Sirens:
Sirens have a habit of falling into heat - either naturally or artificially.
They can be truly insatiable vixens when the right buttons are pushed...
Ah...heat. Its an embarrassing subject for us Sirens - we lose all control of ourselves. While in heat, we need to be bred. We need to be filled, played with...we have to have our lust sated, or it can drive us mad.
Rumors have spread of groups that capture Sirens, forcing them into artificial heat for the sexual pleasure of others. Considering how weak we become during this time, there's no way for us to escape. Not that we really want to after a short amount of time - as long as we get what we need, all else fades away. It can even shift our view on what our calling truly means, if we're in heat for long enough.
Despite how often we, uh, mate - birth rates are very low. A Siren can birth another species child quite easily - a ritual cast by Physical or Spiritual mages switches the usually dominant genes of a Siren to recessive. Those birth rates are perfectly fine, and can happen quite frequently. Its such a shame that we can't have our own children so often...
Either way. It may come as a surprise to most, but we lay eggs! Even with species that normally have live births - we still birth them in eggs. The shell around the child, no matter the species, is highly sort after by crafters and collectors alike - the material is almost crystalline in nature, and can be made into armour or jewelry for the rich. Simply looking at the bead on my tail is a good example - our soul beads are made from our own egg! All of our eggs have the same properties of the bead; its only missing the magic which comes from our own calling. I'm sure that with the right ritual we could lay empty eggs, simply producing them for the shell - but it would take effort for such a spell to be found, effort that most Sirens are too busy to give.
The pregnancy and incubation process for us is...uncomfortable. We start lactating a couple of days into the pregnancy, our bellies swelling in size at an incredibly fast rate. We lay our eggs after a month of this; one to three eggs in a normal clutch. That in itself is...fun, I'm sure. After that, we have to incubate the egg, usually feeding it a large amount of our magic per day. It can be very tiring. It depends on the species hatching on how long this incubation goes on for - it generally lasts as long as the creatures natural pregnancy - for example, a Siren giving birth to a human would have a nine month incubation time. Either way, once we have laid at least one egg we will always lactate - no stopping our milk! - so generally a mother will get one of our ritual piercings that prevent leakage on each nipple...
Mmm? Oh, is that why I have these nipple piercings, you ask? The answer is no - mine are magic and can easily be imbued with that power once I do become a mother, but for now they are cosmetic. I am both lucky and unfortunate enough to have not been bred...yet.
Baby girl Sapphira, would you ever have children?
Eheh...despite being a baby girl myself, I have always wanted my own children. Another baby Siren to call my own! It hasn't happened yet, but I'm not going to say no if I do ever fall pregnant. There's a certain Paladin I have my eye on right now...I'm sure he'd make a delightful father to my young...
